Manjiree Monolkar – Art Exhibition “A New Beginning” #GalleriesM

Manjiree’s original qualification is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. Her journey as an artist is quite interesting. After graduation she did in masters in Personnel Management and joined Government service. Drawing has been her passion since childhood but she never got any formal education in arts. It was only after moving to Boston for her husband’s education and then his job that she found time and opportunity to pursue her long time wish of learning art formally. Manjiree then made her portfolio and sent it to various art schools. She not just got accepted by some of the schools but she got a Dean’s scholarship from Maine College of Art, Portland, ME. Masters in Fine Arts is their flagship program and they were eager to welcome Manjiree because the cultural diversity she would bring to the class.

Before making her portfolio Manjiree did some Art History courses form local colleges and a summer program in painting at MassArt, Boston, MA. That proved good for her orientation. The MFA program was rigorous but that is just what was needed. Good faculty, class critics, peer learning and visiting artists made learning a fun. Manjiree’s thesis work for graduation was about “Power”. In her opinion art must have a social sense. Through her art she tried to explore something as abstract as ( and as elusive as) ‘Power’. Power can mean different things to different people. It can be seductive, repulsive, frightening and many other things. She used figurative imagery and symbolism to get those different aspects out. She made a comprehensive body of work. She handled different mediums from printmaking, oil on canvas, inks on paper to making stop motion animation films to get her message out.

But after spending a lot of time with the theme and the concept she is moving on to other themes and mediums. Her new exhibition is titled ” A New Beginning” but it shows her new as well as some old works. In her latest work you will find more expressionist work using resist technique. It is a mixed media using water media and oil based colors/ pastels/ oil sticks on paper. She has used figurative imagery and mostly rooster fights. As cliche as it might sound, she finds fun making these. Italian artist Francesco Clemente says that,” Basic human desire is the desire for narrative, to have a story or to tell a story”. Manjiree likes stories, myths and narratives. There is a story that goes with this theme.

“A man sees two beautiful roosters fighting each other in the jungle. They are probably fighting for a female or it is just a friendly fight. He is fascinated and catches them, gets them home. He starts teaching them more fierce fighting. He charges money from people to watch these cock-fights. Now the roosters are fighting more fiercely, almost unto the death but it is not for fun anymore and it is not for a female. They don’t know what it is for anymore. But the fight must go on.”

As much as this style of working is more spontaneous than her previous work so are the colors more vibrant. There is experimenting with handling different mediums. Subjects are varied as well. She says that this change is liberating.

This exhibition is a part of her journey of becoming an artist. It is by no means an end.

Give Your Best Shot – No Matter What

There is one inspirational story in my mind that I can’t wait to share with you. It’s related to a sergeant in Hungarian army – Karoly Takacs

At the age 28 [1938], Karoly was the top pistol shooter . He had won most of the national, International Championships. He was waiting for 1940 Olympics.His eyes was to win the Gold medal.. But before that, he was in a Army training & a hand grenade exploded in Karoly’s right hand .and his dream was just destroyed .

But,

Instead of taking sympathy,he looked for ways to convert his dream into beautiful reality. He was in hospital for a month.He had lost one hand but he had not lost ATTITUDE to win a Gold medal. He had all attitude and determination with him. People might be thinking he will not be able to do anything.. but inside his heart, there was rays of Hope.

He had hope to succeed, he found he has a Healthy and functional hand with him. He started practice with left hand. He knows he will get pain, he knows he is left handed . But he focused on his Dream and he started practicing shooting from his left hand.

One year later,

Karoly went into National shooting championship in Hungary.His friends/colleagues were surprised to see him and cheer up on his courage. But Karoly surprised them by saying he was there to compete with them. And he won.

But his Olympic Dream could not be fulfilled as next 2 Olympic got cancelled  because of world war.. he never lost his hope, determination, attitude and will power.

He waited and won the Gold medal in 1948/52 Olympic.

What is growth hacking and What does a growth hacker do ?

Hey buddy are you SEO! ? But how come you are @ senior position in first Job.

I shocked later i realized and told him it’s not Sr Executive officer..its Search Engine Optimization work.

In India: SEO, Digital marketing, Social Media Marketing was not known for many… Nowadays i feel almost every Organisation knows its benefits, even Political parties.

=======================================

From my head: The Future of Marketing is “Growth Hacking” . Growth hacking is new concepts for any business/startups.

Its a new buzz word which is roaming inside the mind of any kind of marketers. most of them are SEO, Social Media or Digital Marketing Guys.

The Future of Marketing is “Growth Hacking”

So what is Growth Hacking ?

A/c to wiki: Growth hacking is a marketing technique developed by technology startups which use creativity, analytical thinking, and social metrics to sell products and gain exposure.

A/c to kissmetrics: At many technology companies, traditional marketing roles are transforming into growth hacking roles. In fact, the work has become so popular now that some companies are hiring “growth hackers “. Different from marketers, who traditionally are less technical, growth hackers have one objective – to grow the company.

Gagan Biyani, the co-founder of Udemy and a growth hacker himself, said, “many of the growth hacking descriptions on the web are unnecessarily restrictive. I don’t believe growth hackers must be formal engineers when many of the most well-regarded growth hackers don’t code regularly.” A growth hacker usually needs a programmer on his team, but he doesn’t have to be the programmer.

A/c to Neil Patel PDF Book on Growth Hacking: A growth hacker at a small startup has a team of three people: himself, a front-end developer, and a back-end developer.

“Make stuff people want.” – Paul Graham

“It’s a mindset not a toolkit.” – Aaron Ginn

=======================================

Now, What does a growth hacker do ?

I tell you 2 short story.

1st: There is a school since 25 yrs which have almost 500 students.. but due to lack on knowledge the school could not become big. The director’s focus was just to make money without enhancements. the same way, there are many good online education institutions which have million students and too they got in few yrs. what i can say here the school might have got traditional marketers and online institutes have got Growth Hackers.

2nd: There is small kirana store [ Grocery shop ] in Bangalore since 15 yrs, but couldn’t open its new shop. may be its owner is happy with little or may be he or she is following traditional marketing to grow its business. but if you can look up @ Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh..they have spread all over the India in just few yrs.even they have come up online. its all because of hatke[thought different style of marketing] of traditional marketing.

So, even Neil Patel Says: You don’t have to be a programmer to be a growth hacker. Traditional marketers can become growth hackers if they narrow their focus and deepen their skill set.

=======================================

Founders : “Ok how can we get people to try our company?”
Growth Hackers : “Make stuff that people want.”

Then they’ll do the marketing for us [in free].

growth hacking (2)

========================================

Growth hackers just sits and think of Growth only. Jobs and Responsibilities are:

GH sits almost alone or with few similar kind of people.

GH will directly work with Designer, programmer, tester, top management team.

GH will try to implement impossible things with the help of programmers.

How can we get awareness, attention or Brand name easily ?

How can we get particular users ? GH always think of actual users who can signup and buy products.

They throw out traditional way of marketing practices and implement new tricks after doing research, testing.

They make use of SEO, Digital/Internet Marketing , Social Media Marketing, Adwords, PPC, Review Blogs, Influencers marketing, API etc..

They are single decision makers for any startups.

A good technical growth hacker should always be asking “how can this be automated”. A good non-technical growth hacker should always be asking their technical partner “would it be possible to…?”.

They think from customer eyes, means what their customers wants from them. Think More From Your Customers, Not More Customers.

It actually works and you can track it.

Think More From Your Customers, Not More Customers 1

Conclusion:

Neil very well said on his Blog:

Like it or not, growth hacking is happening.

And it’s the reason we get to see a few new startups each year, with absolutely ridiculous growth rates.

Like Facebook…

…or, more recently, Uber.

==========

You can take an example of  marketing at any startup, you will learn a lot about Growth Hacking Process. Growth hackers are extremely analytical, creative and also right brained. Its not a difficult or having a particular strategy to follow process .. its all a Mindset.
